Viking Leather Historical Hardware Shield Strap
This sturdy 10-11 oz drum dyed bridle (chestnut) or latigo (black) leather belting is the same premium product that I've used to make belts and accessories for
thousands
of SCA and Ren-Faire participants over several decades.  This has been crafted into a load bearing shield carriage using historical hardware that is hand assembled using domed solid copper rivets peined in place on an anvil.  It is
sealed
the full length on all sides to prevent die transfer onto your attire.   It measures 3/4" wide x 26" for (lower) buckle side strap and 34" for (upper) the strap side you will thread through the buckle.  We can easily accommodate changes in length as may suit your particular shield preferences.   The top strap has been punched at 1" intervals to allow for a span of a range of sizes. Built for long life and with serious quality, they will exceed your expectations.

We use robust historical black finish steel hardware with a pivoting plate for no bind mounting.
Color
:
Available in Black or Chestnut.  Long Wear, Excellent Body.
Length
: Overall at furthest extend our standard strap spans 60" but a typical mounting will be in the 45" range.  Excess can be trimmed off by user or  at our shop if preferred.  We can easily manage special request for dimension as we each just for you and generally have pleny of leather on hand on hand.  Just ask, and we'll make it happen.
Shorter is very easy too, but please be careful and don't make it too small for you.  If we don't hear from you we'll assume that the standard size is good as that fits most folks pretty well.
Finished end
: We'll trim the end with a diagonal cut unless you tell us otherwise.  Other options are half circle, square cut, English V
Width:
This belt is 3/4" inch wide. If you'd prefer something else please visit our other auctions for a wider selection or send a message.
Holes:
We typically ship these with a range of hole punched on the strap end ranging from 44" through 52" for over all fit.  We also allow an extra 8" beyond the last hold for drape or extra room.  This allows the wearer to size and perforate these in person when a fit can be had wearing all garments and accessories that shall be thereunder.
This fine belting is handmade entirely with hand tools in our smoke free workshop in Saint Albans, Vermont.   Please contact us within 3 days after the end of the auction, and make payment within 7 days.
We ship fast via USPS FCM
(or better) with delivery confirmation.  We are happy to ship internationally and insurance is included in this rate.  We typically use transparent packaging for your belt for thrift and easy clearance through postal security.  If this will be a gift or you'd like the contents of your order more hidden just drop us a note and we'll ship using opaque packaging.

Cautionary tales..... there are other auctions out there that aren't selling what you'd probably want.
Thickness/Weight of Leather
Belts of much thinner grade leather have been sold on ebay for somewhat less or somewhat more than what we ask.  Every belt maker claims to make the best belts along with the inferiority of others.  Our decades of experience has shown that a bridle leather belt has a lifespan of at least as many decades despite any outlandish claims to the contrary.  It should come as no surprise that more costly leather delivers a better result.
Quality Hardware
We make  no compromise on quality.  This is reflected in our choice of superior ring hardware.   We encourage buyers to compare, it's your choice "silver/gold colored" rings or good quality fittings.  We've chosen carefully, others sellers haven't.
Length of Leather
We've noticed some auctions for 55-65 inch belts.  A person with a 36" waist will have only a 6 inch tail after the half Windsor knot uses up a foot (it does).  So if you're a really tiny person, or want a really short tail end that'll be fine.  However, be aware that using 10-20" less leather is how that shell game works.
Finished Edges
It's possible to take a ring and attach it to a strip of leather and call that done.  But a good belt should have a finished bevel to the sides.  Again trying to substitute speed for quality will make a belt that is less that you deserve.  Check those edges...
We hope that these cautionary tales will steer people clear of the dissapointment of inferior quality.  It is possible to spend less or even more and get something that isn't what you deserve as a valued customer.

A note on handling time:  We generally ship in just a few days.  However there are periods in the armor cycle when we are at week long events or getting mobbed that it may take longer.  We
