Read in a paper today someone whilst bemoaning the theft of four hives, and we all hate thieves do we not, claimed the units were worth £1000 each. Really?
With the best will in the world I cannot make that maths work unless there were serious skyscrapers of supers on top. Or the floors were gold plated.
It would be far better for the bee community if people kept a perspective on costs, and avoided giving the local neds the idea that hives are worth three times the reality.

I agree, our hobby does cost a lot initially but £1000 per hive, what planet are they on !!!
It will certainly encourage certain people to steal hives.
It is a bit silly as it makes them sound a lot more worth stealing!
